Key Responsibilities:
- Administering Medications: Accurately and safely administer prescribed medications to residents, meticulously documenting each instance in accordance with facility protocols and state regulations. This includes monitoring for adverse reactions and reporting any concerns to the appropriate nursing staff.
- Monitoring Vital Signs: Regularly monitor residents' vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen saturation) and document findings accurately and promptly. Report any significant changes or irregularities to the supervising nurse immediately.
- Wound Care: Provide basic wound care as directed by a physician or nurse, ensuring proper cleaning, dressing changes, and infection prevention techniques. Maintain meticulous documentation of wound assessments and treatments.
- Assisting with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living): Assist residents with activities of daily living as needed, such as personal hygiene, dressing, and mobility, while respecting their dignity and independence.
- Maintaining Accurate Records: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for each resident, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and HIPAA guidelines.
- Emergency Response: Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies, following established emergency protocols and assisting with resident evacuation if necessary.
- Equipment Maintenance: Properly maintain and clean medical equipment, ensuring its functionality and safety. Report any malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate personnel immediately.
- Communication & Collaboration: Maintain open and effective communication with residents, their families, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals. Collaborate effectively within the healthcare team to ensure the best possible care for residents.
- Infection Control: Strictly adhere to infection control protocols and practices to maintain a safe and sanitary environment for residents and staff.
- Compliance: Maintain compliance with all relevant state and federal regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN): Possession of a valid CMA or LPN license is required. Experience in a long-term care or assisted living setting is preferred.
- CPR & First Aid Certification: Current certification in CPR and First Aid is essential.
- Medication Administration Experience: Demonstrated experience in accurately administering medications, including oral, topical, and injectable medications.
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology: A strong understanding of medical terminology and procedures is necessary.
- Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with residents, families, and colleagues.
- Strong Observation Skills: Keen attention to detail and the ability to accurately observe and document changes in residents' health status.
